🐶 Why would a family want to be a Guardian Home?
1. They can receive a beautiful puppy usually pic of the litter at a discounted price. A pick of the litter can normally range $4800-$7000.00 We discount our guardians to $1500-$2000.00
2. They get to raise the puppy from the beginning.
The family gets to experience all the fun parts—puppy training, walks, playing, vacations, cuddling and watching the dog grow—rather than receiving an adult dog later.
3. The dog is their family member.
The goal is for the dog to live as a normal, loved family pet. Guardian programs specifically emphasize that the dog lives in the home and receives individual attention and socialization.
4. They are helping produce future Chicago Goldendoodles.
The family is helping Chicago Goldendoodles maintain a carefully selected breeding program while giving the breeding dog a wonderful home life.
5. They can have the dog for life.
Once the dog completes its breeding responsibilities, the breeder will give $500 toward the spay and neuter.
What does being a Guardian actually entail?
I'd explain it to prospective families like this:
🏠 The dog lives with you
The dog is your family pet. You provide:
-
A loving indoor home
-
Food and treats
-
Exercise and play
-
Basic obedience training
-
Socialization
-
Grooming
-
Routine veterinary care
-
A safe environment
-
Lots of love and attention
The family should understand that this isn't simply a "discounted puppy." It is a partnership with Chicago Goldendoodles and comes with responsibilities. Guardian programs commonly require the family to live within a reasonable distance, maintain training and communicate closely with the breeder.
🧬 Chicago Goldendoodles retains breeding rights
The dog remains part of the Chicago Goldendoodles breeding program until the requirements of the Guardian Agreement are fulfilled.
Before breeding, the dog would undergo the appropriate health testing. I the breeder will pay for the health testing.
🐕 If it's a FEMALE
They can come into heat 1-2 times a year. they would only be bred once a year. Some guardians will put their female in a diaper when they bleed. Just depends on your home. We have tile floors so I don't bother at my home. They can bleed on average 10-20 days. We always need to know when its day one of their heat cycle so we know what day to take them to the vet to get their progesterone checked.
If the female has at least 4 babies we give you $500.00 when she returns home.
This is the biggest commitment families need to understand.
When she comes into heat, the guardian family would notify Chicago Goldendoodles. She would come back to the breeder for breeding.
After breeding, she will return to her guardian family for most of the pregnancy.
Then, approximately a week before she is due to have puppies, she would return to Chicago Goldendoodles to have her puppies and raise them until they are weaned/ready to leave.
Depending on the breeder's program, this can mean the female is away from her guardian family for approximately 6–8 weeks per litter.
After she completes the agreed number of litters usually 3-4, Chicago Goldendoodles would retire her from the breeding program, give the guardian $500 toward the spay., and she would return to her guardian family permanently.
🐾 If it's a MALE
The commitment is generally easier.
He lives with the guardian family full-time but comes to Chicago Goldendoodles when he is needed for:
-
Health testing
-
Breeding
-
Other breeding-program appointments
We give the guardian home $100.00 anytime we use the male as a stud.
After his breeding career is finished, he is neutered and ownership transfers to the guardian family. Male guardian dogs generally spend much less time away from their families than females. Guardians for males need to live close because breeding we usually just need then for an hour or two then they return home.
